What we offer...

A Choice for Women offers a wide range of gynecological services and well women's care. We provide pregnancy terminations up to 22 weeks LMP. All women seen for termination of pregnancies receive counseling, birth control information, recovery care and 3- week follow- up appointment. We also offer medical abortion, emergency contraception, pap smears, birth control methods, sexual transmitted infection screening and education.

Pregnancy Termination

Pregnancy terminations are done at our office in a two to four hour visit. Our patients are first requested to provide us with important information, have lab work, an individual private counseling session , and see the physician for the procedure. The doctor first performs an ultrasound to determine how far pregnant you are. You then have the choice of anesthesia; including general anesthesia, IV sedation, or local anesthesia. The abortion procedure takes about 8- 10 minutes. Ultrasound is used throughout the entire procedure to ensure both completion and safety of the procedure. You will then be in the recovery room for one hour after the procedure.

Medical Abortion
A Choice for Women offers medical abortions for patients between 3 to 7 weeks LMP. The medication used for this procedure is mifepristone (Mifeprex) and misoprostol. Both of these medications are FDA approved. The medications have been studied extensively around the world and in the United States. This process usually involves a minimum of 3 visits to our office.

Second Trimester Abortions
A Choice for Women specializes in second trimester abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy. In general, this usually requires a 2- day visit to our clinic. The first day will consist of an Ultrasound, counseling, evaluation by the physician, and a cervical dilator inserted into the cervix to soften and dilate the cervix. You will return to the clinic the next day for the termination procedure. You will be given general anesthesia for the procedure and will not feel the procedure at all. There are many reasons why women may terminate pregnancies in the second trimester. Many patients are referred to our office because there is something wrong with the fetus and terminating is in the best interest for her and her family. Many doctors refer their patients to us because they know their patients will get supportive care in a nonjudgmental environment.

Recovery Period
Most of our patients can return to work or school the next day after the procedure. We recommend that you avoid heavy lifting, strenuous exercise, sexual intercourse and inserting anything vaginally for three weeks. All patients are encouraged to return to our office in three weeks for a follow-up visit.

Abortion is one of the safest medical procedures in the United States. It is eight times safer than a vaginal delivery. At A Choice for Women, our complication rates are low because of our qualified staff. All our patients leave our office with antibiotics to help prevent infection, medication to prevent excessive bleeding and pain medication for cramping. Our staff is available 24- hours a day for any emergencies or problems you may have.
